Summary news lead

Example of a summary news lead from print/online media:

"The chairman of the Senate Finance Committee unveiled a summary of his long-awaited health care reform bill Wednesday, setting the stage for a legislative showdown on President Obama's top domestic priority."

http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/09/16/health.care/index.html

This lead is an example of a summary lead because it provides the facts "fast," and explains the "who," (Senate Finance Committee) "what," ("a summary of his lon-awaited health care reform bill") "when" ("Wednesday") and "why" (it sets "the stage for a legislative showdown on President Obama's top domestic priority") of the story. Additionally, it provides information that is "crucial" to the story by using the "active voice" and gives the readers an overview of what is going to be discussed in the piece.
